Opera's Everyman wraps up superstar series

Tucked into a hotel room in Stockholm, Bryn Terfel, the Meat Loaf of opera, is contemplating his return to Miami on Monday and the vagaries of high, low, and medium-brow art.

The acclaimed Welsh bass-baritone considers the sweep of his Florida Grand Opera Superstar concert at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts -- Wagner's Die Frist ist um to You'll Never Walk Alone from Carousel with co-star Sarah Coburn -- and contemplates dream projects of synergy with fellow Welshman Tom Jones.

''Now that he's in his silver-fox period, we'd be great together,'' Terfel says.

His newest effort is yet another bid to ramp up the game: ``I'm recording now in Sweden, and the working title is Bad Boy Bryn, featuring all the misfits and malcontents of opera, from Tosca to Sweeney Todd.''
