Russian Soprano Anna Netrebko Pregnant, Engaged to Baritone Erwin Schrott

Russian soprano Anna Netrebko has announced that she is pregnant and plans to marry her fiancé, Uruguayan baritone Erwin Schrott, the Associated Press has reported.

Netrebko, 36, is expecting a child this autumn, her management company confirmed on Monday. "We are both very, very happy that soon there will be three of us," Netrebko said in a statement.

The soprano plans to "keep her engagements as long as her doctors permit it," said her manager, Jeffrey Vanderveen. The soprano does plan to perform in a slated Manon at the Vienna Staatsoper on April 4, but has already withdrawn from performances of Roméo et Juliette — opposite Rolando Villazón — at the Salzburg Festival, as well as next season's October performances of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Metropolitan Opera. Netrebko reportedly remains scheduled for the Met's February 2009 performances of Lucia.

The child will be the first for Netrebko, who became engaged to Schrott, 35, late last year
