We are pleased to announce that the Met's beloved Franco Zeffirelli production of Bizet’s Carmen will replace the previously scheduled production of Offenbach’s Les Contes d'Hoffmann in the 2007-08 season. The change in repertory is due to the decision of Argentine tenor Marcelo Álvarez to retire the role of Hoffmann from his repertory. Instead, he will make his Met role debut as Don José opposite the acclaimed Carmen of mezzo-soprano Olga Borodina (pictured above). Carmen also stars Krassimira Stoyanova as Micaëla and will be conducted by Emmanuel Villaume.
